The FDA-approved Lumenis M22® IPL device constitutes a non-invasive laser treatment that demonstrates considerable efficacy in addressing unwanted telangiectasias, commonly referred to as “spider veins”. When utilized for the treatment of spider veins, IPL specifically targets the red or purple pigment (hemoglobin) present within the blood vessels. This procedure directs heat towards the blood vessels, resulting in their effective destruction. Subsequently, the collapsed vessels are absorbed back into the body.
IPL treatments typically require a duration of 15 to 30 minutes, contingent upon the size of the treatment area. Patients may experience a mild to moderate sensation akin to a “rubber band snap”. To facilitate the maneuverability of the handpiece over the skin while also absorbing a portion of the heat produced by the laser, cold ultrasound gel is applied. Individuals can resume regular activities, such as returning to work or engaging in exercise, on the same day.
